Woman, lover get death penalty for killing her husband in Chandpur

Chandpur: A Chandpur court on Monday sentenced a woman and her lover to death for killing her husband in Sadar upazila in 2013.

The condemned convicts are Shilpi Begum, 32, wife of victim Kalamtar Gazi, of Bishnapur village, and Kabir Gaziof the same village.

According to the prosecution, Kalamtar had a tiff with his wife Shilpi over her alleged extramarital affairs with Kabir.

On the night of 7 July 2013, Kabir and Shilpi stabbed Kalamtar to death and buried the body in the kitchen.

On July 10, Shipli lodged a general diary with Chandpur Model Police Station mentioning that her husband went missing.

Later, police arrested Kabir and Shilpi on suspicious behaviour. Later, they confessed to their crime.

On July 11, victim’s brother Liton Gazi filed a case with the police station in this regard.

Sub-inspector of the police station Manik, also investigation officer of the case, submitted a charge-sheet against the two accused to a court.

After examining witnesses and documents, Judge of the Additional District and Session Court Mamunur Rashid handed down the verdict.
