Barisal: A woman allegedly tried to commit suicide after killing her twin daughters at Paschim Bhuter Dia area of Babuganj upazila in Barisal on Saturday morning.

The deceased are Mariam and Ayesha Siddiqa, 3-year twin daughters of Selim Khan and Sharmin Begum of the area.

Quoting witnesses police said Sharmin strangled her two daughters to death with a scarf and then tried to commit suicide by jumping into the Sugandha river at about 11:00am.

Rescued by the local people, Sharmin was taken to Baher Char Hospital.

On information, police recovered the bodies of the two children and sent those to Sher-e-Bangla Medical College Hospital for autopsy, said Shah Alam,  Babuganj police officer-in-charge.
