Petition filed over the legality of district council election
Dhaka: A writ petition filed with the High Court challenging the legality of holding the first-ever direct elections for the Zila Parishads (district council), slated for 28 December.
Supreme Court lawyer Advocate Yunus Ali Akand on Tuesday filed the petition with the High Court bench concerned.
The petitioner also sought for cancel of the election.
The HC bench of Justice Quazi Reza-Ul Hoque and Justice Mohammad Ullah is expected to hear the petition at noon.
The petitioner mentioned that sections 4(2) and 17 of the District Council Act 2000 as well as section 5 of the District Council (Amendment) Act 2016 are contradictory to Articles no 11 and 59 of Constitution are contradictory.
