A BNP delegation, led by party senior joint secretary general Ruhul Kabir Rizvi, went to the EC secretariat with the letter signed by its general secretary Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir.

The delegation handed over the letter to EC Secretary Mohammad Abdullah, reports UNB.

Form the very beginning of the announcement of schedule for the Narayanganj City Corporation (NCC) election, BNP has been demanding army deployment for a free and fair balloting.

Talking to reporters after handing over the letter, Rizvi said, ‘We hope the current Election Commission will take good initiatives at the fag end of its tenure to brighten its image. We’ve demanded army deployment in Narayanganj seven days ahead of the voting for ensuring fair polling.’

Mentioning that the returning officer himself said all the polling stations are vulnerable, the BNP leader said the EC will have to take proper steps considering the overall situation in the election area.

In the letter, the party also called for creating a level-playing field, recovering illegal arms and ensuring a congenial atmosphere so that voters can safely go to the polling stations and cast their votes without any intimidation.

BNP’s other demands include taking steps to keep election officials free from political influence, providing the candidates with the list of the election officials 10 days before the voting, ensuring security for polling agents and deploying adequate number of law enforcers at every polling station.
