No plan to block free calling, social communication apps: BTRC
Dhaka: Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) has no plans to block or control the operations of social networking platform Imo, Viber, Messenger, WhatsApp, Skype in Bangladesh.
“It is not true at all that some media and social networking sites are publishing controversial news and spreading propaganda that the BTRC is going to shut down these apps,” BTRC secretary and spokesman M Sarwar Alam told UNB.
Besides, there is no directive of the government on the BTRC to stop these kinds of Apps of OTT (over the top), he said.
On November 25 last, BTRC chairman at a press briefing stressed the role of these apps for diverting any international call.
No question came at the press conference over the advantages of voice call using the OTT Apps or the stoppage of these Apps, even any news was published or telecast in this regard, said the press release.
Despite this, some media and TV channel are confusing people by publishing the news now that the BTRC is going to stop the Apps, Sarwar added.
