BGB seized Tk 919-cr contraband items in 11 months

Dhaka: Members of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) seized various contraband items, including Yaba tablets, heroin and foreign wine, worth over Tk 919.45 crore in the last 11 months.

In drives across the country, especially frontier areas, from January 1 to November 30, the paramilitary force also arrested 1,610 people for their involvement in smuggling while 1,606 others for crossing the border illegally.

During the period, the BGB also foiled the attempt of 5,716 Myanmar nationals to trespass into the Bangladesh territory through Bangladesh-Myanmar border. 

The seized contraband items include 7,618,193 Yaba pills, 236,953 bottles of Phensidyl, 16,492 kgs of cannabis, 237,554 bottles of foreign wine, 32.58 kgs of heroin, 58,065 intoxicated injections and 21,429,519 tablets of different categories, said sources at the BGB headquarters.

Besides, the border force seized 62 pistols, 44 guns, 246 bullets, 65 magazines, seven electronic detonators and 552.7 kgs gunpowder during the period.
