The government on Sunday expelled Narayanganj-7 murder prime accused Nur Hossain from the post of councillor of Narayanganj City Corporation and declared it vacant as he was convicted under Wildlife (Preservation & Security) Act, 2012.

Local Government Division of the Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives (LGRD) Ministry issued a circular on 7 May removing Nur Hossain from the councillor post of ward No.4 (general ward) of the city corporation.

According to the circular, the ministry has expelled Nur Hossain as per section-13 under Local Government (City Corporation) Act-2009 and declared the councilor post vacant.

In the circular, the Election Commission has also been directed to hold by-polls in the ward within 90 days.

Earlier, a Narayanganj court sentenced Nur Hossain in a case filed under wildlife preservation Act.

The ministry has also suspended ward no 3 councillor Shahjalal Badal due to a criminal case against him. Shahjalal is the nephew of Nur Hossain. He has also been absconding since the 7-murder incident.

On 27 April 2014 Narayanganj city panel mayor Nazrul Islam, his friend Moniruzzaman Swapan, Tajul Islam, Liton and driver Jahangir Alam, advocate Chandan Kumar Sarkar and his car driver Ibrahim went missing. They were found dead on the River Shitalakshya on 30 April and 1 May.

Prime accused Nur Hossain fled to India even before the bodies were recovered.

Following the incident, Nazrul Islam’s widow Selina Islam Beauty and Chandan Sarkar’s son-in-law Bijoy Kumar Pal filed two different cases with the Fatullah police.

He is now in an Indian jail following his arrest in Kolkata as Indian police arrested him on 7 May 2014.

Though initiatives were heard to be taken to repatriate Nur Hossain from India, no effective steps were seen.

According to Narayanganj police, there are 22 cases filed against Nur Hossain with Narayanganj, Fatullah and Siddhirganj police station on different charges.

Shahjalal Badal is accused in a cased filed with Siddhirganj police station.
