Abducted Bangladeshi rescued in Malaysia, 3 held
Members of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) rescued a Bangladeshi, who was kidnapped in Malaysia, and detained three people for their connection in the abduction.
The victim is Mohammad Mahbub Alam, in his late thirties, said RAB media wing Director Mufti Mahmud Khan in a press conference held at his office in Dhaka’s Karwan Bazar at about 11:00am.
The detainees are Dulal, a resident of Tangail, Rupchan Ali, and Ali Ahmed Rifat, a resident of Comilla.
Mufti Mahmud Khan said Nazmul Haque Shobuj, Mahbub’s brother, brought allegation against a syndicate on 28 November for kidnapping his brother and demanding ransom in Malaysia. According to the claim, RAB 3 detained Dulal and Rupchan in Shideshwari Degree College area on the same day when they were collecting the ransom amount from the victim’s family.
On 1 December, with assistance of Bangladesh embassy in Malaysia, Mahbub was rescued in a critically ill condition from a jungle in Pahang area of Malaysia.
Later, on 3 December, Ali Ahmed Rifat, was held in Malibagh Chowdhurypara area for his alleged involvement in the abduction.
Quoting the detainees, the RAB official said, Julhas, Jahangir Alam Kamal, Mohammad Faruque Sarker, Tauhidul Islam and some others, all Bangladeshi expatriates in Malaysia, abducted Bangladeshis there and extract ransom from their family using their representatives in country.
