2 women killed as car mounts footpath
Dhaka: Two women were killed as a private car crashed into a footpath near High Court area under Shahbagh police station in Dhaka in the early hours of Tuesday.
The accident occurred when the car driver lost his control over the steering and mounted the car over footpath at about 12:00 midnight.
Police held driver of the private car. The detainee is Shawon, a student of BRAC University.
One of the deceased is Hasina while identity of another could not be known yet, both of them were around forty years.
The Shahbagh police Officer-in-charge Abu Bakar said in primary quizzing Shawon confessed he drove the car into footpath as he tried to give side to a truck.
The women were taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital where doctors declared them dead, said the OC.
There were two passengers in the car during the accident. However, they managed to flee from the spot immediately after the accident, said Abu Bakar.
