Dhaka: The High Court on Tuesday asked the authorities concerned to remove the names of anti-liberation elements from all structures, including educational institutions, roads and bus stops, within two months.

Following a writ petition, an HC bench comprising Justice Quazi Reza-Ul Hoque and Justice Mohammad Ullah asked the Local Government Division and Education secretaries to submit a compliance report in this regard, fixing upcoming March 1 for the next hearing.

Eminent historian Prof Muntassir Mamoon and Ghatak Dalal Nirmul Committee acting president Shahriar Kabir filed the writ with the High Court in 2012 seeking its directives to remove the names of two Pakistani collaborators from two establishments -- Khan A Sabur Road in Khulna and Shah Azizur Rahman at Islamic University.

Meanwhile, a list of establishments named after 20 collaborators, including executed war criminals Ali Ahsan Muhammad Mojaheed and Abdul Alim, was submitted before the court with a supplementary petition, said AK Rashedul Haq who stood for the petitioners.

The other 18 collaborators are Jatiya Party leader Syed Kaisar Ali, Moulvibazar Shanti Committee Chairman Yusuf Ali, Saifuddin Yeahia Khan Majlish, Abdur Razzak of Faridpur, Mahtab Ullah of Moulvibazar, Abdul Aziz and Abdul Jabbar from Gaibandha, Tarikullah from Noakhali, Mia Mansur Ali from Jhenidah, Rezaur Rahman from Comilla, Abdus Sattar and Kasir Uddin from Natore, Tamimul Ehsan and Mohammad Ullah from Dhaka South, Abdur Rahman from Netrakona, Mansur Ali and Sabdhar Ali from Meherpur and Shafi Ahmed from Jhenidah districts.

Following the writ petition, the High Court on May 14, 2012, issued an interim order not to use the names of the collaborators.

It had also issued a rule asking the government to explain as to why directives should not be given to change the names of roads and establishments named after Razakars and why those involved in naming the roads and structures after them should not be brought to justice.

Following a supplementary petition filed by Muntassir Mamoon and Shahriar Kabir on August 25 last year, the High Court asked the Khulna City Corporation mayor to use ‘Jessore Road’ instead of ‘Khan A Sabur Road’ and remove the name of Shah Azizur Rahman from Islamic University auditorium.
