Dhaka: Three policemen were suspended on Wednesday over the escape of a detainee from a long-route bus on Tuesday night.

The detainee accused of a murder case managed to escape the police custody while being shifted to Narayanganj from Natore jail at Baliarpur at Savar in Dhaka.

Amin Bazar police camp sub-inspector said the three policemen were taking Shamim Mia to Narayanganj in a Hanif Paribahan bus on Tuesday.

When the bus reached Baliarpur on the Dhaka-Aricha Highway, Shamim jumped off the running bus and fled away, he said.

A passenger of the bus said the accused with two police constables and a habildar took meal at a restaurant and the accused managed to flee while the three policemen fell asleep in the bus at night.
