Raid in Chittagong 'militant den', 3 'HuJi men' held
Chittagong: The members of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) conducted a drive at a two-storey building by cordoning it in Akbar Shah police station area of Chittagong on Thursday morning.
RAB claimed to hold three suspected members of banned outfit Harkat-ul-Jihad (HuJi) from the suspected militant hideout during the drive.
RAB-7 Assistant Director Sohel Mahmud said a team of RAB held arrested two suspected Huji members-Nazim and Tajul carrying arms in AK Khan area of Chittagong city on Wednesday night.
Based on the information gleaned from the duo during primary interrogation, the RAB members conducted a drive at Mukim Talukdar Para in Akbar Shar area and cordoned off a two-storey building at about 6:00am, said Sohel Mahmud, assistant superintendent of police (ASP).
Later, RAB members stormed into the first floor of the building at about 10:15 am and arrested three other HuJi men from the house. The militants burnt down a laptop, mobile phone sets and some documents from the spot.
The RAB members also recovered two firearms, four grenades, huge bomb making materials, some sharp weapons and jihadi books from their possession.
The militants rented the first floor of the two-storey building, owned by one Haji Mansur Ali, in mid-November and had been residing in the flat from 1 December, said the RAB.
The owner of the building could not be found as he went into hiding, he added.
