Dhaka: Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Thursday said Rohingya issue cannot be resolved militarily as it is a political problem.

Sheikh Hasina said this when newly appointed Danish Ambassador to Bangladesh Mikael Hemnid Winther made a courtesy call on her at her office.

PM's Press Secretary Ihsanul Karim briefed reporters after the meeting.

He said the Danish envoy highly appreciated Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina the way she is dealing with the Rohingya issue.

"Its (Rohingya issue) a political problem and it can't be resolved militarily," the Prime Minister was quoted as telling the envoy adding that she herself was in exile for long six years.

Referring to the CHT Peace Accord during her rule in 1997, Hasina said the insurgents at that time surrendered to the government.

Listing various development activities taken place during the AL government in the CHT region, she said the people of these hilly areas can now enjoy the mobile and internet facilities apart from other facilities.

The Prime Minister also reiterated her zero tolerance policy against terrorism.

Hasina invited the Danish entrepreneurs to invest in Bangladesh's agro processing and food processing industries saying that some 100 Special Economic Zones are being built across the country in specific areas to spur industrial growth and saving the agricultural land.

Mentioning that the main aim of her government is to develop the country with a particular focus on rural development, she said her government has been continuing its relentless efforts at the grassroots level.

She also assured the Danish Ambassador of extending all-out cooperation during his stay in Bangladesh.

Ambassador Winther said Denmark is proud of being a development partner of Bangladesh saying that this cooperation will continue. Things are progressing well in Bangladesh, he noted.

He said there is good potential for cooperation between the two countries in the green energy sector.

Referring to the Vision 2021 goal of Bangladesh, Mikael said, "We'll like to become part of it."

The Danish envoy also thanked the Prime Minister for hosting the 9th Global Forum on Migration and Development Summit to be held in Dhaka on December 10-12.

PM's Principal Secretary Dr Kamal Abdul Naser Chowdhury was present on the occasion.
