8 get life term for murder

Nilphamari: A Nilphamari court on Tuesday convicted eight people and sentenced them to life term imprisonment for killing an elderly woman in Kishoreganj upazila of the district in 2002.
The convicts were also fined Tk 100000 each, in default, they will have to suffer 1 year more rigorous imprisonment.
The lifers are Akbar Ali, his three sons - Golam Mostafa, Abdul Majid, Nur Islam- , Abdul Mannan, Abdul Hannan, Abdus Salam and Eyakub Ali, all are residents of Jummapara village of the upazila.
According to prosecution, Kalathi Begum, 75, wife of Shamser Ali, was killed by the convicts over previous enmity at Modhya Rajib village on 22 October 2002.
Belal Hossain, younger brother of the Kalathi Begum, filed a case with Kishoreganj police station on the following day accusing eight people.
District and sessions Judge Mahmudul Kabir handed down the verdict after examining the prosecution witnesses and the records.
