Charges framed against 2 Mymensingh war crimes suspects
Dhaka: The International Crimes Tribunal (ICT) on Sunday framed charges against two people of Mymensingh for their alleged involvement in crimes against humanity during the liberation war in 1971.
A three-member bench of the ICT, headed by Justice Anwarul Haque, framed the charges and fixed January 31 for hearing the prosecution witnesses.
The two war crimes suspects are Riaz Uddin Fakir and Wajuddin Fakir of Phulbaria upazila of Mymensingh district. Of them, Riaz Uddin is now in jail while Wajuddin remained absconding for long.
Hrishikesh Saha, a prosecutor, said a total of 36 people will testify against them.
On March 29, last, the International Crimes Tribunal accepted charges against the two war crimes suspects.
The prosecution pressed the charges against them on March 23.
Khorshed Ali, son of martyred Taleb Mandal, a freedom fighter of Bhalukjan village in Phulbaria upazila, filed the case against three war crimes suspects.
On September 4, 2015, another accused of the case Haji Amjad Ali, who sustained injuries in a road accident in Gazipur city on August 12, died at Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH).
According to the case statement, the Pakistani collaborators shot Taleb Mandal after taking him at a bridge over Akhila River as per the order of Amzad Ali. Besides, Amzad, Riaz Uddin and Wajuddin had been led many crimes against humanity including mass killing, torturing, looting and violating three Hindu women during the liberation war.
Ataur Rahman, investigation officer started investigation on October 10, 2014. On February 18, 2016, the IO submitted investigation report against them on five charges.
