EC asked not to allocate ‘Weighing scale’ to any party
Dhaka: The Supreme Court on Wednesday sent a letter to the Election Commission (EC) asking it to take necessary steps not to allocate election symbol ‘Weighing Weighing Scale’ to any political party or organisation.
The letter, signed by High Court division registrar Abu Syed Diljar Hussain, was sent to the EC secretary from the registrar office of the SC at about 3:15 pm following the decision taken at the full court meeting of the Supreme Court on Monday.
‘If the EC has already allocated ‘Weighing Weighing Scale’ to anyone, the SC asked it to cancel it,’ the letter says.
On Monday, the full court meeting of the Supreme Court in the presence of Chief Justice SK Sinha and the judges of the High Court division decided that as the Supreme Court has long been using ‘Weighing Scale’ in its monogram as the symbol of justice, it is unexpected and disagreed to use ‘Weighing Scale’ as election symbol for any political party or organisation.
Talking to reporters, Attorney General Mahbubey Alam said it is mandatory for all to comply with the decision of the full court meeting.
