Two sentenced to death for univ student murder in Dhaka
Dhaka: A Dhaka tribunal on Thursday sentenced two people to death and another to life term imprisonment for killing a private university student at Mirpur in the city in 2012.
The condemned convicted are Ashfaq Ahmed Shihab, student of Ideal Institute of Science and Technology and Al Amin Islam Pintu while the lifer is Md Ruhul Amin Rubel, student of BSC engineering of People’s University.
The court also fined Rubel Tk 1 lakh, in default, he will have to suffer one year more imprisonment.
Meanwhile, under section 394/34 of Bangladesh Penal Code, the court also sentenced the three to life term imprisonment and fined TK 50,000 each, in default, they will have to serve six months more imprisonment.
Besides, under section 411/34 of the penal code, the court sentenced them to three years imprisonment and fined TK 10,000 each, and in case of failure to pay the fine they will have to serve three months more imprisonment.
According to prosecution, Amit Saha, son of Shyamol Chandra Bhuiyan, were strangulated to death by his friend Ashfaq and his associates at his residence at Pallabi on November 21, 2012.
Later, the killers hanged his body with the ceiling fan of the room and took away his laptop, tab, gold ornaments worth Tk 9 lakh.
Later Amit’s father filed a case against the trio with Pallabi Police Station.
Motiur Rahman, sub-inspector of Pallabi Police Station, submitted a chargesheet against them on April 29, 2013.
After examining all the records and 21 witnesses among 22, Shahed Nur Uddin, judge of Dhaka speedy trial tribunal-1, handed down the verdict.
