Ivy visits Sakhawat’s home with sweetmeats

Narayanganj: Mayor-elect of Narayanganj city Dr Salina Hayat Ivy on Friday visited the residence of her nearest rival Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) mayoral candidate Sakhawat Hossain Khan with sweetmeats following her Thursday’s victory.
Ivy along with her brother Ali Reza went to Sakhawat’s residence in the city’s Kazipara area at about 11:00am. As they reached his home, Sakhawat and his wife heartily welcomed Ivy and congratulated her on her victory.
Sakhawat said if Ivy works with cooperation from all irrespective of political parties and continues her strong stance against drug and terrorism he is ready to cooperate with her.
Ivy told Sakhawat that she will consider his election manifesto during her works for the city’s development.
The newly elected mayor went to Sakhawat’s residence according to her previous promise.
During the election campaign Ivy made a pledge to take her breakfast with Sakhawat if she wins the election, while invited Sakhawat for breakfast at her residence if he wins the election.
Earlier, Awami League mayoral candidate Ivy re-elected mayor of Narayanganj City Corporation (NCC) after defeating BNP contestant Sakhawat Hossain Khan by a big margin of 77,902 votes in the election held on Thursday.
According to unofficial results, Ivy bagged 174,602 votes while Sakhawat polled 96,700.
The NCC election was considered vital ahead of the reconstitution of the next Election Commission that will conduct the next parliamentary polls.
It was the country's first city election that was held along the political party line.
