36 charged with Mirpur petrol bomb attack

Dhaka: Police has submitted the charge sheet of a case for petrol bomb explosion and trying to set fire on vehicles against 36 people including Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) standing committee member Barrister Rafiqul Islam Miah, its joint-secretary generals Ruhul Kabir Rizvi and Amanullah Aman.
The other accused include BNP chairperson’s press secretary Maruf Kamal Khan, BNP chairperson’s special assistant Samsur Rahman Shimul and former BNP MP Syeda Asifa Ashrafi Papia.
Mirpur Model Police Station sub-inspector Md Rafiqul Islam, who is also the investigation officer of the case, submitted the charge sheet to the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate’s court on Thursday.
According to case records, BNP-Jamaat activists, as part of enforcing a hartal called by the 20 Partry Alliance, exploded petrol bomb and tried to set fire on vehicles in front of Sony Cinema Hall in Mirpur area of the city around 1:45pm on 25 January this year.
Mirpur Model Police Station sub-inspector Khandker Rajik Ahmed filed a case in connection with the incident on the same day.
