Ashkona raid
Two women surrender to police
Dhaka: Police said two women along with two children surrendered before the law enforcers as they were raiding a suspected militant den in Ashkona area of Dhaka on early Saturday.
On secret information that a group of ‘Neo-Jamaatul Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB)’ were staying at an apartment in a three-storey building in the area, a team of the Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime (CTTC) unit of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) cordoned off the area early Saturday and at about 9:30am two women and two children surrendered before police.
One of the women is Jebunnahar Shila, wife of slain Neo JMB military commander Major (retd) Jahid while another is Trisna, wife of a militant suspect Musa.
CTTC unit chief Monirul Islam said the JMB members staying in the building have powerful grenades.
Other residents of the building have already been shifted from the building, he added.
Police said it is not clear if there are more militants still available in the building.
