Dhaka Metropolitan Police Additional Deputy-commissioner and Head of Bomb Disposal Unit Sarwar Hossain shared the information with media at about 1:00pm on Saturday.

The police officer said, wife of militant Sumon and son of another militant Tanvir Quader were repeatedly asked to come out of their hideout at an apartment in a three-storey building of the area and surrender to police, but they declined. Later police fire tear-gas shells into the apartment. The militants hurt themselves in a suicidal grenade attack.

Police rescued and send an injured child to hospital. The child is believed to be the offspring of a militant Iqbal, the officer added.

Earlier, tipped off that a group of ‘Neo-Jamaatul Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB)’ were staying at an apartment in a three-storey building of the area, a team of the Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime (CTTC) unit cordoned off the building early in the morning, said CTTC unit chief Monirul Islam.

Special police force SWAT, bomb disposal unit and Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) joined the CTTC unit.
