Dhaka: The members of law enforcement agencies continue the drive at Ashkona militant hideout in Dhaka for the second consecutive day on Sunday with the recovery of five grenades and two suicide vests.

‘A total of five grenades were recovered at the militant den,’ said Bomb disposal team chief Sanowar Hossain, ‘The ground floor used as militant hideout in Ashkona is in volatile condition as gas is coming out of one of the rooms where the body of the militant Afif Kaderi Ador is still lying.’

Bomb disposal team of the Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime (CTTC) unit, Crime Scene Team of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) entered to the militant hideout at Surya Vila at about 11:00am on Sunday.

After disposal of the explosives, the police will recover the dead body of another militant Habib Quadery alias Arif Quadery who killed in the police drive on Saturday, he added.

Earlier, two suspected militants were killed on Saturday after police raided a hideout Dhaka’s Dakshinkhan neighbourhood for more than 12 hours.

Police, acting on a tip, besieged the apartment at the third storey of a building at Ashkona, with the operation coming to an end at about 4:00pm after officers exchanged gun-fire with the militants.

One of the deceased was wife of absconding militant Sumon while another was 15-year-old Afif Kaderi, son of Tanvir Kaderi, who was killed in Azimpur raid in September last.

A child was also injured as Sumon’s wife was holding the child when exploded a vest she was wearing.

However, on Saturday, Police Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime Unit’s chief Mohammad Monirul Islam said police have been informed that there is a haul if bombs and explosive at the flat. The law enforcers did not enter into the house for recovering the body of the militant due to safety risk.

Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Bomb Disposal Unit started working on deposing bombs and explosive at about 9:00am on Sunday, said the Dakhinkhan police Officer-in-charge Tapan Kumar.

Police will send the body to Dhaka Medical College Hospital for autopsy after removing the bombs.

Two other women — Jebunnahar Shila, wife of ex-army Major Zahid, who was killed in a ‘gunfight’ with law enforcers at Roopnagar in the capital on 2 September  last, and Trishna, wife of absconding JMB leader Musa — along with two children surrendered to police.
