Women in militancy under husbands’ influence: CTTC

Dhaka: Female militants got evolved in militancy under the pressure of their husbands, said Monirul Islam, chief of Counterterrorism and Transnational Unit (CTTC) of Dhaka Metropolitan police (DMP), said on Tuesday.

“We got information about their involvement in militancy from the arrested female militants,” he told reporters at DMP media centre.

Monirul said police did not find any evidence of women joining militant activities willingly as they did it under the husbands’ influence.

The CTTC chief also said their primary suspect was that arms, grenades and explosives were stocked in the hideout of militant outfit ‘Neo JMB’ at Ashkona in the city’s Dakkhin Khan area as the militants were planning to carry out terror attacks on Christmas Day.

“It’ll be clear further after the arrest of militant Musa from where they brought arms and grenades, and what their main plan was,” he added.

Earlier on Saturday, two suspected militants, including Shakira alias Tahira, wife of absconding militant Sumon, were killed and a seven-year-old girl, daughter of slain militant Iqbal, was injured during a police raid, ‘Operation Ripple 24’, on a militant den at Ashkona.

Besides two other women -- Jebunnahar along with 16-month-old daughter, Mariam Binte Jahid, and Trisha along with his four-month daughter --surrendered to the police during the raid.
