4 electrocuted

Dhaka: Two people, including a child, died of electrocution and two others injured during a heavy rain in the capitals Lalbagh area on Friday afternoon.

The deceased were identified as Sohanur Rahman Rifat, 11, Ruma Akhter, 28, while the injured are Rifats’ mother Jarina and Nishat, 11.

Sources at Dhaka Medical College Hospital said the victims along with several others were taking rain bath during the heavy rainfall. Suddenly, an electric wire got severed from a pole and fell on a tin-shed house at about 4:15 pm.

Rifat, Ruma, Jarina and Nishat received electric shock in the incident.

Of them, seriously injured Rifat and Ruma were rushed to the DMCH where on-duty doctor declared them dead at about 5:20 pm.

In another incident, young boy Abdur Rahim suffered injuries after he came in contact with a live electrical wire lying on a road while he was walking at Shaheednagar at about 7:30pm.

He was rushed to the DMCH where doctors declared him dead at about 8:15pm.

On the other hand, construction worker Khokon fell off a seven-storey under-construction building at Lalmatia at about 7:00pm after he came in touch with a live electrical wire while working, leaving him injured critically.

Khokon was taken to the DMCH where he died at about 7:35pm.
