Khulna: A woman was shot dead when miscreants attacked an Awami League leader in Shitalbari area of Khulna city on Saturday morning.

The deceased was Sipra Rani Kundu, 50, wife of Chitta Ranjan Kundu, deputy general manager of Shilpa Bank Khulna branch.

Six masked miscreants riding on two motorcycles opened fire on Z A Mahmud Don, publicity and publication secretary of Khulna city unit AL and former councilor of 27 no ward of Khulna City Corporation (KCC), around 10:45 am but the bullet hit Shipra when she was crossing the area, said Shafiqul Islam, officer-in-charge of Khulna Sadar Police Station.

Later, injured Shipra was rushed to Khulna Medical College Hospital (KMCH) where she succumbed to her injuries.
