Recording deposition in graft case against Mirza Abbas on Feb 1
A Dhaka court on Saturday set February 1 for recording depositions of the witness in a graft case against Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) leader and former minister Mirza Abbas and two others.
‘Today [Saturday] was fixed for recording the depositions but a defence counsel pleaded for time saying a writ petition, in connection with the case, is pending with the apex court. Accepting the plea, Judge Aminul Islam of Dhaka-4 special judge court, adjourned the hearing till February 1,’ said a court official.
The other two accused in the case are former state-minister and Abbas’s party-colleague Alamgir Kabir and former secretary Bijon Kanti Sarker, reports BSS.
The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) in 2014 filed the case for embezzling Taka 15.52 crore while allotting plots to journalists during his tenure as housing and public works minister. Dhaka special judge court-4 framed charges in the case on October 20, 2016.
