Dhaka: Police have sent a letter to the Ministry of Home Affairs asking to ban several militant organisations including Ansarullah Bangla Team.

Joint commissioner of Detective Branch (DB) Monirul Islam said this on Saturday.

Monirul Islam said banning Ansraullah Bangla Team is under consideration as the group has been found involved in several killing incidents including killing of several bloggers.

Police found the involvement of the group in the murder of blogger Ahmed Rajib Haider
in February 2013. Charge-sheet was filed against Bangla Team chief Mufti Jashimuddin Rahmani and seven students of North South University. They are in jail now.

Allegations were also found about the involvement of the Team in the killing of writer and blogger Avijit Roy. The Team posted on Twitter claiming responsibility of the killing. But police could not say anything regarding the issue at that time.
