3 NCC councillors face murder charges: Shujan
Dhaka: Three of the newly elected councillors of Narayanganj City Corporation are accused in murder cases while four were murder accused in the past, according to a Shujan analysis.
Besides, 12 elected representatives are accused in various criminal cases while 15 were accused in criminal cases in the past.
Shushashoner Jonno Nagorik (Shujan), a non-government organisation, has come up with the statistics analysing the affidavits of the 37 elected representatives — mayor, 27 general councillors and 9 women councillors from reserved seats — provided by the Election Commission ahead of the December-22 election, said a press release on Wednesday.
As per the Shujan analysis, 26 elected representatives are businessmen while the academic qualification of 22 persons is under SSC.
However, academic qualification of mayor-elect Dr Salina Hayat Ivy is post-graduate as she mentioned ‘Doctor of Medicine’ as her educational qualification in the affidavit.
Besides, the annual income of 12 representatives is above Tk 5 lakh but less than Tk 25 lakh, while that of 22 others is less than Tk 5 lakh.
Ivy annual income is Tk 11.34 lakh.
