Gazipur: A truck driver was stabbed to death by muggers at Ershadnagar in Tongi, Dhaka in the early hours of Sunday.

The deceased is Bulbul Ahmed, in his twenties, a resident of Hamjani Kuripara village in Shibganj upazila, Bogra.

The Tongi police said a gang of muggers stormed the Bogra-bound cement-laden truck from Narayanganj when it stopped in the area at about 3:30am.

Later, the bandits tried to snatch away money and mobile phone set from the Bulbul.

At one stage, they stabbed Bulbul indiscriminately with sharp weapons as he tried to resist them.

Later, local people rescued Bulbul and took him to Gazipur Shaeed Taz Uddin Ahmed Medical College Hospital where doctors declared him dead.

Police recovered the body and sent it to hospital morgue for an autopsy.

A case was filed in this connection.
