1.2kg gold bars found in man’s rectum at Dhaka airport
Dhaka: The custom intelligence officials held a person with 12 gold bars hidden inside his rectum at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka on Thursday morning.
Bangladesh Custom Intelligence and Investigation Department Director General Moinul Islam Khan told NTV Online the custom officials at the airport held a suspected passenger reportedly trying to smuggle 12 gold bars weighing around 1kilogram 200gram early on Thursday.
Later, the intelligence officials recovered the gold bars worth around Tk 60lakh after a night-long search on Thursday morning.
According Bangladesh Custom Intelligence Department’s Facebook page, the detainee is Sharif Ahmed, in his thirties, a resident of Comilla’s Moinamoti. Sharif Ahmed reached Dhaka at about 12:16am from Malaysia by a Malindo Airline’s aircraft.
Suspecting as a gold smuggler, the custom officials challenged Sharif while he was passing the green channel of the custom hall. However, Sharif refused the allegation brought against her. Later, the custom intelligence officials took him to the Emergency Unit of Uttara Women Medical College at about 3:00am, where the physicians conducted X-ray test on him.
The X-ray report identified three abnormal pouches carrying gold bars in Sharif’s rectum.
Later, the custom officials brought him back to Shahajalal Airport’s custom halls and recovered the gold bars.
During primary investigation, Sharif Ahmed said he received training in Malaysia on carrying gold bars into the rectum.
Sharif Ahmed claimed himself as a grocery shopkeeper. On 3 January, he visited to Malaysia for business purpose.
Airport police Officer-in-charge (OC) Nure Azam told NTV Online a case was filed against Sharif in this connection.
