6 suspects in police custody over Lawmaker Liton killing

Gaibandha: A Gaibandha court on Sunday placed six suspects in a 7‐day police custody for quizzing in a case filed in connection with the killing of Gaibandha‐1 lawmaker Manjurul Islam Liton.

The remanded suspects are, Farid Miah, of Ramvadra Kadamtala village, Samiul Islam, Nichpara village, Hadisur

Rahman, of Khamarpachgachhi village, Ziaur Rahman, of Uttar Hatibanda village, Hazrat Ali, of Khanabari village, and Nabinur Khandakar, of Shibram village of the upazila.

Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate Mainul Hasan Yusuf passed the order after investigation officer of the case Abu Mohammad Ashrafuzzaman, officer‐in‐charge (Investigation) of Sundarganj Police Station, produced them before the court seeking a 7‐day remand.

Earlier on 31 December, Liton was shot at point blank range by some miscreants at his village home at Masterpara in Bamandanga union of Sundarganj Upazila.

The lawmaker was admitted to Rangpur Medical College Hospital where doctors declared him dead.
