Zianagar upazila retitled
Dhaka: The name of Zianagar upazila under Pirojpur district will be changed into Indurkani.
The decision was taken during a meeting of National Implementation Committee for Administrative Reorganization-Reform (NICAR) chaired by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina at the cabinet meeting room in Secretariat on Monday.
The Cabinet Secretary Mohammad Shafiul Alam told the journalist Zianagar was made an upazila under Pirojpur in 2002. The main market area of Sadar police station is known as Indurkani.
Considering the demand of local people’s demand, it has been decided in the meeting to renamed Zianagar as Indurkani.
However, the cabinet secretary refused to make any comment on why the upazila was named Zianagar earlier in 2000.
Shafiul Alam said the meeting also decided to make an upazila under Comilla district and will be named Lalmai. The upazila will be consisted of eight unions of Comilla Sadar and a union of Laksham upazila.
With a number of 2 lakh 19,000, Lalmai will be the 491st upazila of the country, said the cabinet official.
However, the NICAR board also agreed to turn the Dohajari union of Chandaish upazila in Chittogong to a municipality.
