Dhaka: The firefighters units brought the fire broke at a multi-storey building in Banani on Monday afternoon under control after one and a half hour.

The Fire Service and Civil Defence control room said they doused the flames at about 4:00pm.

Earlier, a fire originated at the building of Road 17 in Block-C at about 2:30pm.

Around 16 units of fire fighters had worked to douse the fire.

Dhaka fire service control room duty official Ziaur Rahman said smoke was coming out of the building, it had been assumed that huge flames are blazing inside.

Witnesses said several people who had been trapped inside the building were rescued. Many of them took shelter to the roof.
