Hasina-Salahuddin’s emotional reunion

Dhaka: Hasina Ahmed, wife of Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) joint secretary general Salahuddin Ahmed, finally had an emotional reunion with her husband at a hospital in Shillong, Meghalaya on Monday night.
Hasina went to under trial prisoners (UTP) cell at the Shillong Civil Hospital around 8:00pm and met Salahuddin for the first time since he had gone missing from an Uttara house in Dhaka on 10 March, BNP assistant office secretary Abdul Latif Jony said from Shillong.
Seeing each other after a long time, the couple got emotional and burst into tears.
Later, they held back their emotion and talked about issues like Salahuddin’s health condition and legal procedure to bring him back from India.
Hasina Ahmed left Shahjalal International Airport on Sunday night and reached Shillong at about 6:00pm on Monday.
Meghalaya police arrested BNP joint secretary general Salahuddin Ahmed on 11 May as he was hanging around aimlessly in Golf Links area of Shillong after nearly two months of his disappearance. Since he had no valid papers, identity proof or travel permit, he was arrested by Meghalaya police and booked under the Foreigners Act.
On 12 May, Salahuddin Ahmed who remained missing for over two months phoned his wife Hasina from Meghalaya Institute of Mental Health & Neurological Science (MIMHANS) of India.
Hasina got the Indian visa on Sunday evening.
Jony said after reaching Shillong Hasina sought permission from the police official concerned to meet her husband. She also narrated to police official how and when her husband went missing.
As the police gave her permission, she met Salahuddin and talked to him for nearly 30 minutes.
Coming out of the hospital, she told reporters that she is worried about Salahuddin’s treatment as he is seriously sick.
Hasina said she will consult local lawyers on Tuesday as to how they will deal with the legal procedure to bring him back home or take him to another country for better treatment.
