BGB and Coast Guard the key to prevent drug-smuggling

Dhaka: Director General (DG) of Department of Narcotics Control (DNC) Khandakar Rakibur Rahman on Thursday emphasized increasing the effectiveness of law enforcement agencies, especially the BGB and Coast Guard, to prevent illegal narcotics from entering the country.

“Members of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) and Bangladesh Coast Guard have been performing effective role to control entry of illegal drugs through frontiers. But they (BGB and Coast Guard) have to carry out stronger activities so that no narcotic items smuggle into the country,” the DG DNC said while addressing as the chief guest at anti-drug discussion programme at Green University of Asia Pacific at Farmgate in the city.

He said we can get relief from dangerous consequence of drug abuse not only enforcing laws rather if we can able to aware concerned people, including youths and students.

He called upon higher study students not to involve in drug abuse anyway as a entire family will destroy by only one drug user.

Chaired by Pro-VC of the university Prof Dr MR Kabis, the discussion meeting was also addressed, among others by, Kaiyum Reza Chowdhury, trustee board chairman of the university, Debate for Democracy chairman Hasan Ahmed Chowdhury Kiron, DNC director KM Tariqul Islam and treasurer of the university Air Commodore (Retd) Eshhak Elahi Chowdhury.
