Sheikh Hasina urges AL followers to prepare for next polls
Dhaka: Awami League president Sheikh Hasina, also the prime minister, on Saturday called upon the leaders and workers of her party to prepare themselves as the next general election is knocking at the door.
She also directed the party advisory council members to form sector-wise units to ensure the incorporation of issues in the manifesto for the upcoming national election.
Sheikh Hasina was addressing the leaders of Awami League at her Dhanmondi office in the capital.
Listing her government’s successes, Sheikh Hasina also stressed the importance of projecting those good works among the country’s people as vested quarters will be trying to misguide them with wrong information. “Let people know that desired development cannot be achieved without the continuation of the government.”
Sheikh Hasina said people now can realise that the country has been able to achieve the development and prosperity as the Awami League-led government has been in power for the last eight years.
About the manifesto announced before the 2008 and 2014 general elections, the Awami League President mentioned that almost all of the pledges have been fulfilled and said, in some cases, her party led government has done more than its commitments.
About the motto of her party politics, Hasina said, Awami League does politics to protect the interest of people and build their fate.
Sheikh Hasina also stressed maintaining honesty and boldness as well as working with self-confidence, or else, evil forces cannot be tackled.
Referring to the Padma Bridge issue, the Prime Minister the mega project is being constructed with own resources facing all the challenges.
On completion of the mega project, Hasina said, many countries might follow the initiative of Bangladesh as an example.
Describing the huge success of her government in various sectors, the Prime Minister said the country will see tremendous progress if Awami League remains in power. “BNP means killing, plundering money, terrorism and sufferings of people,” she said adding the party which was born illegally cannot do any welfare and development of the country.
Later, the party president held a meeting with party high-ups.
Earlier on her arrival at the party office at Dhanmondi Road-3A, the Awami League President was received by its General Secretary Obaidul Quader.
