Dhaka: The High Court on Monday set January 26 to pass order on a rule asking why the court shall not grant bail to four women languishing jail for seven years without any trial.

A High Court division bench comprising Justice Obaidul Hassan and Justice Krishna Debnath passed the order as prison authorities produced the four women before court, reports BSS.

The four are Shahnaj Begum, Sumi Akter Reshma, Rajia Sultana and Rani alias Nupur.

Advocate Ainun Nahar Siddiqa of Supreme Court Legal Aid office took part in the hearing today for the four women.

The High Court on November 30, 2016, issued the rule and asked the prison authorities to produce the four before the court on Monday.

According to the case documents, Shahnaj was sent to jail on September 16, 2008, after being arrested in a murder case filed under Dohar Police Station. Sumi is in jail from January 15, 2009, in a murder case lodged under Shyampur Police Station.

Rajia was sent to jail on May 21, 2009, after getting arrested in a murder case filed under Turag Police Station, while Rani is in jail since November 21, 2009, in a murder case lodged under Ramna Police Station.

All the four were produced before concerned courts around seventy times, but their trials are yet to be concluded.
