Gulshan shop owners’ rehabilitation begins Friday: Annisul
Dhaka: Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) Mayor Annisul Huq said the rehabilitation of the affected shop owners of Gulshan DNCC market will start on Friday.
‘Already 88 temporary shops have been constructed for their rehabilitation’, the mayor told a press conference organised following the dumping works at the fire-ravaged market.
Annisul said 291 more shop owners will be rehabilitated in a place where a portion of the two-storey DNCC market collapsed.
‘The Local Government and Rural Development Ministry and the Fire Service and Civil Defence formed two probe committees to investigate the fire incident. The investigation is underway’, Huq said.
He said an expert team of Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (Buet) is examining the rest portion of the building for the safety of shop owners.
‘Steel props have been attached with the building for its safety’, the mayor added.
Bangladesh Army with the help of shop owners and law enforcers carried out the dumping works at the DNCC market from January 4 to 18 and removed around 6,000 tons of rods and concrete wastes from the collapsed market.
On January 3 last, part of the two-storey DNCC Market at Gulshan-1 in Dhaka collapsed and most shops in the remaining part were gutted as the market caught fire.
