Suranjit’s APS Omar Faruk jailed for 5 years
Dhaka: Omar Faruq Talukder, former assistant personal secretary (APS) of Minister Suranjit Sengupta, handed over with five years of imprisonment for concealing wealth statement from the Anti‐Corruption Commission (ACC).
Judge of Dhaka Special Court 4 Mohammad Ataur Rahman issued the order on Sunday morning and sent him to jail.
The court also fined him Tk 1,23,47,000. In default, he will have to spend two years and six months in jail.
On 26 November, 2012, ACC assistant director S M Rashedur Reza, who is also investigation officer of the case, submitted the charge sheet against him in the case.
On 14 August, 2012, the ACC filed the case accusing Faruq for amassing illegal wealth.
Earlier on 11 April, 2012, Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) seized Tk 70 lakh from the car of Suranjit's APS Omar Faruq Talukder at the BGB headquarters.
