Court summons AL lawmaker over cheque fraud
Dhaka: A Dhaka court summoned Jhalakathi-1 constituency Awami League Lawmaker Bazlul Haque Harun on 5 June in a case filed against him over cheque forgery.
Jatiya Party Central Committee Senior Joint General Secretary Khalilur Rahman Khalil filed the case with Dhaka Chief Metropolitan Magistrate’s (CMM) court on Monday over cheque fraud of around Tk 1crore.
Later considering the case, Dhaka Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Abu Sayeed called Bazlul Haque to present before the court on 5 June.
Khalilur Rahman Khalil told NTV Online three cases were filed against the lawmaker for scamming three cheques each worthing Tk 1crore.
He said one of the cases filed against Bazlul had been stayed by High Court. The MP is also scheduled to present before the CMM court in another case on 7 February.
The case statement says Lawmaker Bazlul borrowed money from Khalilur Rahman several times for business purpose. He paid back partial amount of the debt to Khalilur through a cheque of Tk 1 crore.
However, the cheque was dishonoured by the Banani Branch of Jamuna Bank as Khalilur went to cash it. Bazlul Haque unheeded Khalilur in this regard.
Later, Khalilur filed cases against Bazlul Haque over cheque scam under Negotiable Instrument (NI) Act.
