17 BNP leaders, activists face arrest warrants
Dhaka: A Dhaka court on Wednesday issued warrants for the arrest of 17 BNP leaders and activists, including Shimul Biswas, in a case filed with Khilgaon police station under the Special Powers Act.
Dhaka Metropolitan Session Judge M Kamrul Hossain Mollah issued the warrant after taking cognisance of the charge sheet in the morning.
The court also directed the officer-in-charge of Khilgaon police station to submit a report over the updates arrest on February 26.
BNP leader Barkatullah Bulu, Maruf Kamal Khan, Selima Rahman, Shirin Sultana, Shafiul Bari Babu, Mir Sharafat Ali Sopu, and MA Qaium were among the accused.
On January 31, 2105, a group of miscreants set a bus of ‘Turag Transport’ afire during a blockade programme enforced by BNP.
M Nazrul Islam, owner of the bus, filed a case with Khilgaon police station against 21 BNP leaders and activists, including Ruhul Kabir Rizvi, MK Anwar and Amanullah Aman.
On May 19, 2016, sub-inspector M Bilal Hossain, also the investigation officer of the case, submitted a charge sheet against 24 people.
However, Ruhul Kabir Rizvi, MK Anwar, Amanullah Aman and five other accused secured bail in the case.
