Bagerhat: Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader on Saturday said road communication among Bangladesh, India, Nepal and Bhutan will be introduced soon.

‘An agreement regarding road communications between Bangladesh, India, Nepal and Bhutan will be signed on 15 June in Thimpu. After that road communications among the four countries will begin,’ he said.

The minister said this while talking to journalists after a programme held at Fakirhat upazila in Bagerhat.

Obaidul Quader observed the road links among the four countries will make movement of people and transportation of commodities easier. Connectivity established among the neighbouring countries will remain a milestone regarding communications and development.

In reply to a question on which topic will get priority in the upcoming Indian premier’s visit to Bangladesh, the minister said the countries will discuss various important issues. A protocol regarding bus movement between Dhaka-Guwahati will be signed during the visit, and the two premiers will inaugurate the bus service.

Obaidul Quader said 144 accident-prone crossings have been identified across the country and construction for the development of the 70 crossings to make them safe has already started. Development of the remaining crossings will be done within this year.

The minister observed that accidents occur due to the reckless driving and movement by the pedestrians.

Later the minister, also the presidium member of the Awami League, attended the council of district Chhatra League.
