SC consent must to upload sensational case judgment on internet
Parliament: Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Anisul Huq on Sunday told parliament that he would discuss with the Supreme Court to decide whether judgments of different sensational cases could be uploaded on the internet for public interest.
"It is the jurisdiction of Supreme Court...Since the judiciary in Bangladesh is independent, the law ministry has no scope to interfere in its activities," he said while replying to a supplementary raised by treasury bench member Adv. Sanjida Khanam in the House.
Citing example of different developed countries, Sanjida wanted to know whether the government has any plan to upload the judgment of sensational cases on the Internet since people have curiosity about it.
Responding to another supplementary of Md. Shamsul Huq Tuku, the minister informed the House that the Chief Justice had already constituted a number of benches for quick disposal of different income tax related cases.
"I came to know that more benches would be constituted at the Supreme Court to this end soon," he said adding that the Chief Justice had already given directives for quick disposal of the income tax related cases pending before 2010.
Answering to a written question of Nizam Uddin Hazari, the law minister informed the House that the present government had taken effective measurers for quick disposal of various income tax related cases.
In this regard, he said the government has appointed qualified assistant attorney general and deputy attorney general for conducting income tax related cases under the supervision of Attorney General and other law officials.
"As a result, it would be possible to realize revenue following quick disposal of different cases filed by the major public undertakings as well as mobile phone operators," he added.
Responding to another question of independent lawmaker Md. Rustum Ali Farazi, the minister told the House that the present government has taken various measures to dispose of cases pending with different courts across the country for expediting the judicial process.
"The government has achieved significant success to this end," he added.
Giving details, he said a total of 40,64,537 pending cases were dispose of by different courts across the country till December 2016 after taking office of the present government in 2014.
