AL submits names for EC formation
Dhaka: Responding to search committee’s invitation, ruling Awami League on Tuesday submitted names of five individuals for the Election Commission.
The party’s office secretary Abdus Sobhan Golap went to the cabinet division in secretariat at about 12:45pm for submitting the names.
‘I’ve submitted a list of five individuals, signed by AL General Secretary Obaidul Quader, to the search body on behalf of the party, Abdus Sobhan told NTV Online.
Earlier, on Monday, AL Central Working Committee and Advisory Council held an emergency meeting at Ganabhaban in Dhaka.
The meeting was called to decide about the Search Committee’s request to send five names from each party, who participated in the dialogue with the President, for constituting the next election commission.
The search committee formed by President Abdul Hamid held its first meeting on Saturday asking each of the 31 political parties which took part in talks with the President over formation of the next EC to propose five names by 31 January.
President Abdul Hamid on Wednesday formed a six-member search committee, headed by Supreme Court’s Appellate Division judge Justice Syed Mahmud Hossain, for reconstituting the EC.
