2 hurt in ‘gunfight’

Satkhira: A suspected pirate and one of his associates were injured in a gunfight with the police in Kathershwari area in Shyamnagar upazila, Satkhira in the early hours of Monday.
The injured are Karim, and Alamin, a resident of Chandnimukha village of the upazila.
Earlier, Police arrested two of them from Khalisbuniya area of the upazila on Sunday morning.
After primary interrogation, police took the arrested along with them and conducted a drive in the area near River Chuna to recover arms at about 12:00am.
Sensing the presence of the law enforcers, the other members of Karim’s gang opened fire at them, promoting the police to fire back that triggered a gun battle.
The gun battle left Karim and Alamin bullet injured.
Three police members, including two sub inspectors, were also injured in the gunfight, said Imran, an injured sub-inspector of Shyamnagar police.
Police also recovered a pipe gun, a machete and a bullet from the spot, added the Shyamnagar police.
