Dhaka: Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) rescued a total of 811 human trafficking victims and detained 15 traffickers from the border areas in the last two years, Home Minister Asaduzzman Khan told Parliament on Tuesday.

Of the victims, 583 women and 228 children, according to a statistics he placed replying to a starred question from Awami League MP Md Nazrul Islam Babu (Narayanganj-2).

A total of 253 cases were filed in the connection of trafficking 811 women and children in the last two years, he said.

BGB rescued 385 women and 147 children in 2015 and 198 women and 81 children in 2016 when the victims were being trafficking through the border, he added.

In reply to another starred question from Workers' Party MP Hajera Khatun (Women Seat-39), the Home Minister placed a statistics of narcotics items recovered by BGB in 2016.

As per the statistics, BGB recovered 2,68,223 bottles of phensedyl, 17,864 kg hemp, 2,01,500 bottles of foreign wine, 7,688 litres of local wine, 58,057 bottles of beer, 33.799 kg heroine and 81,69,267 yaba pills.

Responding to a starred question from independent MP Md Rustum Ali Faraji (Pirojpur-3), the minister said the Narcotics Control Department and with other law enforcement agencies seized 2,94,50,178 yaba pills.

Besides, the Narcotics Control Department conducted 33,024 anti-drug drives and filed 9,773 cases against 10,465 drug dealers in the last year, Asaduzzaman said.
