Dhaka: A Dhaka tribunal on Tuesday convicted a school teacher and sentenced him to life term imprisonment for raping a five-year-old girl in Dhaka.

The convict is Mohammad Minhaz Uddin, in his twenties, an Arabic teacher of Holy Crescent School and College in West Shewrapara, Mirpur.

The special court also fined him Tk 2 lakh, in default, to suffer three years more rigorous imprisonment.

After examining records and witnesses, Tajnina Ismail, Judge of the Dhaka Women and Child Repression Prevention Tribunal 5, passed the order.

Besides, the court asked the family of the convict to provide Tk one lakh as compensation to the victim’s family.

According to the prosecution, Minhaj took the five-year-old girl, a play group student of the school, to a toilet by alluring her to give chocolate and raped her on 11 March, 2014.

Following the complaint of the victim, she was admitted to the Dhaka Medical College Hospital.

Later, the victim’s father filed a rape case.

Advocate Salma Ali, director of Jatiya Mohila Ainjibi Shamity, stood for the plaintiff.
