4 more held over journalist Shimul killing
Sirajganj: Police arrested four more people from different areas of Shahjadpur upazila on Friday night in connection with the killing of journalist Abdul Hakim Shimul.
With the four, six people were arrested so far in the case, said assistant superintendent of Police Abul Hasnat of Shahjadpur circle.
Meanwhile, Shahjadpur upazila units of Awami League, Jubo League and Bangladesh Chhatra League observed a half-day hartal protesting the incident.
Besides, Shimul’s wife Nurun Nahar filed a case against 12 named people, including Pouro mayor Halimul Haque, his two brothers and 3 unnamed people.
On Friday, Abdul Hakim Shimul, Shahjadpur upazila correspondent of vernacular daily the Dainik Samakal, who suffered bullet wounds during a clash between two associate bodies of Awami League in the upazila on Thursday, succumbed to his injuries while being taken to Dhaka from Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College, Bogra.
After the clash, police seized the Poura mayor’s licensed shot gun.
However, the mayor went into hiding after the incident.
