Supplementary chargesheet in Ananta murder case submitted
Sylhet: Police submitted a supplementary chargesheet against six people in blogger Ananta Bijoy Das murder case.
The supplementary chargesheet was submitted to the general record section of Airport Police Station of Sylhet Metropolitan Police on January 18, said Arman Ali, inspector of Criminal Investigation Department (CID).
‘Militant’ Shafiur Rahman Farabi has been included in the chargesheet.
According to sources at the Airport Police Station, a petition was filed seeking approval of the case under section 40 of the Anti-Terrorism Act.
On February 2, last, the supplementary chargesheet was submitted to the bench concerned for placing it before the court of Sylhet District Magistrate.
The six chargesheeted accused are Safiur Rahman Farabi alais Farabi Safiur Rahman, 30, arrested from Munshipara in the city, Abul Hossain alias Abul Husain, 25, of Kanaighat upazila, Foysal Ahmed, 27, of Khalpar Talbir, Harun Or Rashid, 25, of Tahirpur upazila in Sunamganj, Mannan Yahia alias Ibne Moin, 24, and Abul Khayer Rashid Ahmed, 24, of Kanaighat upazila.
Among them, Abul, Foysal and Harun remained absconding while the other three are now in jail.
The CID also recommended excluding 10 people, including photojournalist Idris Ali, from the case.
Earlier, on October 18, 2016, a court asked the authorities concerned to conduct a fresh investigation into the blogger Ananta Bijoy Das murder and submit a supplementary chargesheet before it.
Judge of Sylhet Metropolitan Magistrate Court-3 Haridash Kumar passed the order after rejecting the chargesheet submitted by Criminal Investigation Department (CID) due to errors in the chargesheet as the CID had recommended exempting 11 people from the chargesheet.
On August 28, last year, CID inspector Arman Ali submitted a chargesheet against five people in the murder case.
Blogger Ananta, also an activist of Sylhet Ganajagaran Manch, was hacked to death by a group of assailants in broad daylight at Subidbazar Bankalapara in Sylhet city on May 12, 2015.
Ananta Bijoy was also a writer of the ‘Mukto-Mona blog’, founded by blogger Avijit Roy who was murdered on February 26, 2015, two and a half months ago after he had come home from the USA.
