Dhaka: Muggers took away Tk 5.70 lakh after shooting a woman and her daughter in the city’s Uttara area on Sunday.

The victims are Shahana Akhtar, 46, and her daughter Natita Rezwana, 28.

Quoting witnesses, police said Shahana and her daughter were returning to their Uttara Sector-12 residence by a private car after withdrawing Tk 5.70 lakh from Jamuna Bank’s Jasimuddin Road branch in Uttara Sector-3 in the morning.

A gang of four snatchers riding two motorcycles intercepted the car in front of Uttara Friends Club around 11:50 am, said Inspector (Investigation) of Uttara West Police Station Abdur Razzak.

They hoodlums opened fire at the duo as the two women tried to resists them, and made away with the amount, leaving Shahana and Natita injured, he said.

With bullet wounds, they were admitted to Apollo Hospitals Ltd.

No case was filed till filing of this report at 7:30 pm.
